Review of Rise of the Savior
Rise of the Savior: Acolyte of Truth is about Amanda, a teenage girl who has just turned eighteen. She is getting ready to join college. Her life takes a turn when she gets into a nasty car accident with her father. The nurse tells her she got involved in an accident, and a good Samaritan brought her in. In addition, the doctor informs her she underwent an operation and healed within a few hours. She does not have any scars either to show for it. Unfortunately, her father is critical and might die. When her sister shows her a video of how she got to the hospital on the back of a dog, she understands her mysterious sister and the role of deities in people’s lives.
Amanda's life suddenly changes when she realizes who she has become. She can now tell when someone is lying or telling the truth. The simple girl is now expected to save the world from an imminent threat of destruction. Saira discovers a secret investigation agency on the internet interested in recruiting Amanda as one of them. The catch is that she has to face off one of them and prove that she is powerful. The Agency expects the acolyte of truth to be very strong. Unfortunately, Amanda is green and not as powerful as they expect her to be.
The novel was quite informative. It was my first time learning about Kundalini. It was interesting researching this and learning about forces and energy within the human body. I also liked how Antoine Bonner created powerful female characters. The female characters matched the male ones. While the protagonist is female, the antagonist is male. There are very few errors in the book. Because of this, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.
Despite the balance with the characters, the main character disappointed me. The protagonist is weak in her role as the savior. As much as Amanda is untrained and new to her role, she is the chosen one. You expect her to rise to the occasion, but she doesn't. Despite all the help Amanda gets, she is pathetic in her role as the acolyte of truth. She cannot do anything on her own. I feel Saira would have been suitable for playing the acolyte of truth. Similarly, Jamie gets influenced emotionally readily that his portrayal as a formidable enemy who is unconquerable does not hold.
Teens and adults alike can read this book. It also contains profane language, but this does not interfere with the reading of the book. Those who like fantasy and action will love this book. Antoine uniquely intertwines these in the novel and will keep you turning the pages. The book is an adventure that will appeal to those interested in discovering how to unlock energy sources in themselves.
