Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi is the eighth book in The Inca Cat Detective Series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. Missy, Inca's human mother, receives a beautiful chance to showcase her new cheese, La Crème de la Crème(which Fromage, Inca's tabby brother claims he co-owns) when she is chosen as one of the judges of a French patisserie competition. Le Cordon Bleu, a reputable French cookery school, has made arrangements for her to present her new cheese in Seoul, where people from all over the world will be in attendance.

The competition is aimed at promoting healthy competition between North and South Korea, and it presents an opportunity for their gracious host Ye-Jun to be reunited with his sister Ji. Ji lives in North Korea with their cat Bo-Mi, while Ye-Jun lives in South Korea with their dog Baram. A risky mission will be undertaken by 'Inca & Company' to unite both sides. Will they succeed? Or will they jeopardize the budding peace?

I knew I would enjoy this book the moment I saw the cover art, and I did. After being enticed by the cover art, I flipped the page and saw the attractive font, then I flipped again and saw beautiful illustrations. I was excited at this point. Jorge Valle did a superb job on the illustrations, and they were placed in the right places. I feel children will find the font and the spacing very attractive, and this will encourage them to read this book.

I think the confidence the Siberian kitty Inca displays is really nice and will help encourage other children to feel confident and think positively about themselves. For example, when she said, "I walked swiftly ahead of the group, my head thrown back and with such a look of regal bearing that no one noticed my diminutive size (page 36)." I especially like the confidence she portrayed irrespective of her small size, and I feel this will encourage children to walk with confidence no matter how small they may appear. There are so many other lessons for children to learn in this book, and I feel this will also be a good book for parents to read to their children at bedtime.

In this book, children can also learn a bit about the cat family while also learning about France, South Korea, and North Korea. The author conveys information in such a descriptive and easy way, using short sentences which will help children remember what they learn. It is a short read, and the fact that it is the eighth book in the series isn't likely to cause any confusion, as everything is clear and easy to understand.

I love how expressive Inca is, and I found it simply hilarious that the pets talked about owning their owners. So, while we think we own them, they also think they own us.

I found nothing negative about this book, and I only saw a few errors while reading. The errors weren't enough to disturb my enjoyment of the book. Therefore, I give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. Yes, it is a children's book, and it is suitable for children between the ages of five and twelve, but adults can also read and enjoy this book as I did. Therefore, I recommend this book to anyone looking for a light and entertaining book to read.
