Everyone Needs a Companion by Jerry A. Greenberg is an interesting book about Ben Follensbey in his seventies. He has two grown kids Sydney and Barry who gave him wonderful grandchdren.

Ben's wife dies from incurable pancreatic cancer. A while later he stops going to work and convinces himself he does not need another woman in his life. He sell their house and give most of their stuff to his kids and move to a one bedroom apartment amongst strangers. Ben gets too lonely and finally gets a pet companion, Buddy. They get too close and even get to go to a nearby pond to relax.

At the pond Ben meets an interesting girl by the name Shirley who reads his lonely self which makes Ben open up to finding a Companion. Sydney arranges a meet up for Ben with Harriet a very intelligent woman and writer. Ben sets of their relationship by spicing up of information just to get Harriet to like him. Ben gets caught up in Harriet's new book about farming which get too complicated and they decide to go for a vacation in Tuscany, Italy. Ben gets so caught up in the fun and company they had with the other couples that he feels like staying there or visit Barcelona and keep travelling. Harriet convinces him to go back and they decide to have a small garden. They invite their grandchildren to help set up the garden with a little help from Ben's friend George. The small party leads to uniting of their families. Ben moves in to Harriets house and eventually get married. Well everyone needs a companion.

I like the writing style. Writer gives details which makes it interesting. Well Italian food is a must do thanks to the writer. I rank this book 4 out of 4 stars since it is readable by anyone ranging from young adults to adults. Though I didn't like how some chapters are too long while some are too short.

I recommend this book to anyone who love non fiction books with lots of twists.
