Review of The Journey of the Abalone Pendant
The Journey of the Abalone Pendant by Dana Anaice Felice is an enchanting young adult fiction book. The story revolves around a young boy with a mystical abalone pendant on an adventurous journey to unravel his true destiny.
Dylan is a simple young boy living on a charming island, enjoying his simple life, reading books, and spending time with his loved ones when he comes across an event that changes his life, and now, nothing will be the same ever again. He discovers a magical, unearthly world underwater, where he meets a mermaid princess after his encounter with the mystical pendant from his father. Dylan grows as he discovers himself while learning new life lessons on his enthralling venture. The story is simple, sweet, and inspiring, filled with mystery and goodness for a refreshing read.
The writing style, just like the story, is simple and refreshing. The character development through the book was quite recommendable. There were so many fascinating and purely beautiful takeaways from the book that I could not pick a particular one. I liked the content present in the story related to culture and family. The book was a work of fiction, yet it intricately captured the essence of reality and the importance of family. I absolutely enjoyed the portrayal of surreal landscapes, especially the underwater scenes of the ocean. Reading this book felt like looking at a piece of creative art.
Another thing I admire about this book is the lively description of the various landscapes done by taking inspiration from real location sites. This book was refreshing, but there was nothing new or surprising about this book or the story. The story was a tad bit predictable and cliche as well. I found no grammatical and spelling errors in this book. I felt that the book is professionally edited. I also did not find any profanities mentioned in this book.
I rate this book three out of four stars, purely due to the absence of a surprise factor, as already mentioned. I recommend this book to all the adolescents out there, as I believe it to be a perfect fitting for them. It really does have some essential takeaways for young children below the age of 15 years. This book also kindles with the curiosity of youngs brains which is why I believe it is an apt book for all the young adolescents out there. Reading this book has indeed left me wishing that I had had more opportunities to read books like this as a kid.
