Review of E M P Honeymoon
EMP Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer is a work that portrays bravery, heroism, love, and the act of fighting for one's country at all costs.
In Honduras, Colonel Rhee Su-Jin and her commander, Dear Leader, were about to carry out a deadly terrorist attack on US soil. They were not planning to blow up a city; instead, they intended to attack US satellites in space. Attacking the satellites would result in a total blackout throughout the United States. Coincidentally, a newly wedded couple, Tom and Kelly, were having their honeymoon in Honduras when this group of terrorists was planning this attack.
Kelly was touring around town one day when she spotted a shop across the street. She intended to buy some toys from the shop. However, she noticed the shop was deserted. What would make a shop located in the center of town this deserted? She wondered. She wandered through the shop when she suddenly discovered a room filled with screens and monitors. What did she find out?
EMP Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer is a fantastic thriller. The author's writing style was quite fascinating, and I subscribe to the notion that she's a good writer. It was written in the third-person perspective, and the characters were well developed.
One aspect I love about this book is the introduction of humor. A thriller book mixed with humor is a perfect combination for an ideal story. Also, the author tried to introduce scientific phenomena to her readers and the public through her storytelling techniques. I had no idea what an electromagnetic pulse was until I read this book. The way she explained and introduced these phenomena was quite commendable. I found the idea of using a character, Professor Kinney Peter, to explain this to be quite effective.
Another thing I love about this book is the characters' willingness to fight for their country despite being in a position that doesn't allow them to. Tom and Kelly were newly wedded; they were supposed to be enjoying their honeymoon during the planning of this attack. Rather than ignoring what they discovered and focusing on their honeymoon, they realized they had to fight first. This was a trait I found relatable in the book. I also loved the budding romance between Steve and Sharon, even though I expected quite more from the duo.
There was nothing I disliked about this book. I also believe the book was professionally edited because I found no errors. Therefore, I will give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend this book to people who love thrillers laced with subtle romance.
