Your most favorite teacher?

Post by LoremasterTappa »

I will never forget my favorite teacher, Libba Moore Gray. She was my senior English teacher and the most memorable person in my life, even now, more than 20 years later. Ms. Gray was also a children's book author. Some of her books can still be found through Amazon and other sites. I can still remember her asking us to keep journals, not so she could read them, but so we could be inspired by ourselves. For the first 15 minutes of class, she would play beautiful Native American music as we wrote, and her assignments were spectacular.

For example, our senior year final semester project was a group project in which we teamed up with other classmates and wrote our own romance novel. One person started it, then the next day that person would read it to the other members. Another person would take it home and add to what was already written. It turned out to be hilarious.

She wasn't just a great teacher and author. She was an amazing person who overcame unbelievable hardships. I found out she had been abused as a child, then married an abuser that she had to escape before she finally found happiness in teaching and a great husband. She also had to overcome cancer before she started teaching. Even after overcoming all of that, I NEVER saw her without a smile on her face. She truly loved her job. Sadly, two years after I graduated, her cancer returned and she passed away. I have always been a reader, but Mrs. Gray gave me a new appreciation for books, as well as for the authors who write them.

Has anyone else been inspired by a teacher that went above and beyond their duties?

My favorite teacher was an Iranian woman who had married an American Air Force
officer, when he was stationed in Iran. She was very intelligent AND HOTTER THAN
THE SAHARA AFTER BEING VISITED BY AN ATOM BOMB. HOLLAAAAA! I was in the 7th
grade(age 12 or 13) and coming of age sexually. If you expected a dissertation on the
socialization of Lime, or what truths she made me aware of(girls are easier to look at)or or how to cook chellokabab or anything meaningful.....I'll give you a refund and
an ardent apology. She exuded sexuality. She had eyes like Katy Jurado that nestled
under almond-like eyelids. Her English was exceptional and her vocabulary indicated
an education fashioned in places like St. Moritz, Barnard, the hanging gardens of Babylon, and the forty columns of Isfahan. Nina could do no wrong. She didn't live
in a mansion or shrine. She and her husband owned Shangrala.
Her eyelashes resembled Venus fly traps when her blood was up. And her body answered
every 13 year olds most burning question: "What's a brick outhouse, Dad?" Wherever you are, God Bless You.
