Review of Love, Grandma
A loving grandmother recalls her memories of her two grandchildren as they grew. It's a lovely story told in rhymes that will brighten your day, and you'll find yourself dancing to the rhythm of her rhymes. The grandmother, Ann Morris, wrote this novel to remind her grandchildren of the good times they had together. She was fortunate in that they were close by.
The characters were fascinating, and their ages corresponded to the activities they participated in. The author had a clear understanding of how to get the reader to follow along with her as her grandchildren grew. I was able to see which milestones Payton and Haley had reached and which ones my daughter is currently experiencing. We had a lot of fun reading this book, and the rhythms inspired a sing-along.
Love, Grandma can also be viewed as an inspirational novel that teaches role models about what a child requires in order to have fond childhood memories. The games they played and the fun they had were very realistic. It contains milestones that any parent can relate to, including games that most children have played. The memories I share with my daughter also surfaced, bringing a smile to my face.
I appreciated how this story elicited some of my own emotions. My daughter, I believe, enjoyed it as well. Many of the games the author played with her grandchildren are similar to those I play with my daughter. For example, when my daughter saw the picture of the airplane trick, she became very excited and asked me to do it with her. The novel also includes a numerous amount of colorful images for children of all ages to enjoy. Each page featured a large new image that resembled the venture they were on. The illustrations will also help younger children understand the script better. I believe it will stimulate a child's imagination and steer them in the right direction.
I don't have any complaints about reading this book to my daughter. It is exceptionally well written and edited. I also didn't notice any grammatical errors. With the above in mind, I give it a perfect 4 out of 4 stars.
An adult should read to children under the age of six, but children above the age of six will enjoy reading it on their own. Any parent or role model who is looking for new activity ideas should read it. Adults should be warned, however, that this is not a bedtime story. A child may want to engage in enjoyable activities soon after reading it.
