Why Can’t Johnny Just Quit? It is a book about addiction. According to Kyle Ho, addiction is often misunderstood. And most people do not understand how it comes about. He explains what addiction is and how it comes about. He says that for one to get addicted, the person must experience a high from the drug. According to him, a high is that euphoric feeling producing extreme happiness. It differs from that drugged, dopey feeling that other people experience.

Kyle Ho disagrees that those suffering from addiction were abused or sexually assaulted as children. He asserts that addiction is a disease that results from a person's predisposition to a drug. Anyone who feels great after taking it is experiencing a high from that drug. The person differs from someone who feels groggy and sleepy. The one who experiences a high is most likely to get addicted to that drug. This is a consequence of them trying to chase that good euphoric feeling.

Knowledge is power is the mantra that Kyle goes by. He believes that when a person is informed about drugs or aware of how addiction occurs, they are most prepared to avoid the pitfalls of addiction. In the book, Kyle dispels some of the common notions about addiction. For instance, he says that physical dependence is not addiction. And, you can depend on something without necessarily being addicted.

He also believes in asking the right question to tell if a person is likely to fall victim to addiction. He believes that when you ask the right question, you will distinguish between addiction and abuse; Something that is often confused. How a person feels after taking the drug is very important, because it will answer whether or not the person is likely to get hooked. This book was superbly written, and I only encountered very few minor errors. I also did not come across anything I did not like. I give it four out of four stars.

The book can benefit everyone. Doctors, especially those who prescribe pain medications to patients, should read this book. Individuals who are already on different prescriptions to manage their pain also need to read it like yesterday. Anyone already battling addiction or anyone who has a family member struggling with addiction, get a copy of Why Can’t Johnny Just Quit? This book will open your eyes to how you can prevent addiction to drugs.
