Some people lurk in the shadows battling the evil we don’t know how to defeat. Highly effective people, with a focus impossible to break and an even higher determination to get things done. You will never know they were by your side, but they will be the ones to protect you. Shadow Game by A. M. Adair follows Elle and her team on a mission to free the world from a higher evil.

Elle is the representation of your ideal soldier and team leader. Focused on her goal and achieving it the best way possible, Elle doesn’t allow feelings to influence her missions. Called to action by her superiors, Elle and her team of extraordinary operators have the mission to take down the most terrorizing group of the Middle East: Daesh. Will all the plans go accordingly to plan or will feelings get in the way?

When I was a little girl, I aspired to be like Elle. I had the dream of becoming a heroin and protecting humans from themselves while eradicating all evil from Earth. To achieve this, I would have to be a great performer physically (if you can’t run a mile, you can’t outrun a terrorist). Not only that, I would have to be an extremely focused individual with a sense of higher purpose, whose main goal was protecting others. This describes Elle down to the core.

My favorite part of the book was the main character: a strong woman with a sense of purpose. The plot was interesting, with the author telling the story in a tactical way. First, there’s the mission presentation: what is happening and what the goal is. Secondly, the planning phase: how is the mission going to be approached? What information is available? Thirdly, strike time!

The author's writing is clear and concise. The focus is the plot, leaving no margin for secondary things. Nevertheless, the author still approaches the thematic of how ignoring feelings will bring more problems, that being a great addition to the story.

The one thing I didn’t like was how we are showed Elle’s process of thinking for the mission, but there are elements missing that would allow us to connect her line to thinking to her final decision. This isn’t a major issue, but it bothered me two or three times.

Considering all I’ve said, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book looks professionally edited as I found no grammatical mistakes. It is directed at the fans of thriller, crime, and espionage. The action is a little slow in the beginning, but once you hit page 100 you aren’t physically able to put the book down. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
