Ironing is a book that shows us what reality is all about. It tells the stories of students, teachers, fathers, mothers, and lovers while focusing on the lives of ordinary citizens in England and the things they had to deal with daily. One wonderful thing about this book is that it tells all these stories of all these people and then comes back to focusing on its main characters—Royanda, Ginie, and Emma. These three were friends who had bonded over the smallest things. On their way to a dog show, they met some other characters whose lives’ stories were told and related to them for various amounts of time.

Navajo made this book easy for me to read by making some of the stories and characters funny. I laughed a lot, especially when Emma was talking. I know that she was not the only one that was funny, but she was the funniest for me. The wonderful Emma and her personality, words, and demeanor are what I liked the most in the novel.

Ironing is a novel that you don't come across every day, and I consider myself fortunate to have read it. From what the author said about the book, I understand that the way it was written was an experiment. To give you a picture of what I am talking about, Navajo wrote the whole novel without chapters, verses, sub-chapters, or whatever you wish to call them. Assume you were given a book that went on and on without allowing you to take a break or rest your head. That's how ironing felt. But even though that may sound bad, I assure you that it wasn’t for me. I struggled to understand the author’s style, but I later understood what he was talking about when he called that an experiment.

I may have not said it to anyone yet, but I disliked nothing in Ironing. Everything about this novel was on point. The whole book was edited exceptionally well, the characters were extremely funny, and it was not a boring book. This makes me rate it four out of four stars. Until now, I had never seen Navajo or read any of his or her books, but ironing has piqued my interest in his or her works. I would love nothing more than to read more books by this author soon.

I do not know what genre to place Ironing, but I think that it should have a genre of its own. I say this because I have never read a book that tells the kind of stories that this one does. Well, I have already established the fact that it was a good book. So I recommend it to readers that want to connect with normal people through books. But because of the profanities that are found from the very first page till the very last, I advise that young readers below 16 should not read this.
