Review of Idiom Attack Vol. 1 Everyday Living (Trad. Chinese Edition)
Idiom Attack Vol. 1 Everyday Living (Trad. Chinese Edition) is a book that collates about 300 very popular idioms that are native to North America. These idioms can be used in the most basic of conversations. The book is a two-edged sword that gives a double reward. On the one hand, it teaches non-English speakers the English language and helps them master it. On the other hand, it helps its readers appear learned whenever they use these idioms. With just 25 chapters, it presents these idioms, their meanings, and the proper way to use them in a very simple form. And most importantly, it translates every word written in English to Chinese to help those who can read Chinese follow the lessons.
One thing that I love about Idiom Attack Vol. 1 Everyday Living (Trad. Chinese Edition) by Peter Liptak is the fact that it can appeal to two major audiences. I know that this one was written specifically for people who can only read Chinese to help their English, but as an English reader, I too learned a lot from it. I felt relieved when I discovered that it wasn't written in just Chinese. This gift of writing in both languages is the thing that I liked the best about the book.
At the end of each chapter, the author gave exercises to test the readers. It reminded me of my days in high school when my textbooks had similar exercises at the end of each chapter. This helped me commit all that I had learned from the book to memory. I liked that very much.
In terms of dislikes, I'm happy to say that I have none for this book. Peter Liptak and his team did a wonderful job, and I will be forever grateful to them. Apart from the flawless translation, it was also flawlessly edited, and by that, I mean that there were no errors (at least I found none). This is a double win for the team that put this together.
It will take a lot for me to not give this book a perfect rating. Everything about it was good. It truly deserves 4 out of 4 stars. I look forward to reading more books by this author and his team.
I recommend this to anybody who reads either English or Chinese or both and wants to improve their vocabulary through idioms. I am sure it will help non-English speakers who have had a bit of training in the language to further master it. I am sure of that.
