"Dead Giveaway" by Joanne Fluke

Post by tracy1 »

"Dead Giveaway" by Joanne Fluke gives the reader an intriguing prologue that makes you wonder what will happen in the book. There is good description of the many characters in the book that are unique. I believe there are a lot of characters, but that Joanne Fluke makes it easy for us to figure out who is who. We get to know the characters well through her well-written story.

Joanne Fluke gives the reader some interesting endings and transitions in scenes which keep us guessing at what will happen. At one point in the book one chapter is at a Mardi Gras party in Las Vegas and the next chapter the reader is transported to a classroom in Minnesota.

Ellen, who is one of the main characters, has her feelings and emotions described well within the novel. Scenery and places are also described well. Joanne Fluke has a good way of showing the reader what is happening in the book through her good writing and descriptions. She uses interesting and unique word choices . A good time frame is given that allows her to show the actions of several characters.

At one point in the book Joanne Fluke writes so many minutes before 10:57 and then shows the actions of the characters at so many minutes before that time which I find interesting. Then we know that 10:57 will be a pivotal and important time in the novel.

Joanne Fluke is very creative with her telling of this story and even writes some song lyrics for one of the characters who is a songwriter. There is a unique use of code names in Chapter 10 and we wonder who the characters are who are going by those code names. This book is a mystery novel that makes you want to keep reading and not put it down. "Dead Giveaway" has a vivid description of a dream that one of the character's has after a body is found. Even when Joanne Fluke describes the night sky it is unique. "Dead Giveaway" is good at casting suspicion on someone else for the murders then the reader is surprised when the real killer is revealed. The conclusion of the book is good and well-written.

Joanne Fluke did a good job with this story. This is one of those books that I set up to 12:40 reading because I wanted to see what happened in the book. This is quite different from the books I have read by Joanne Fluke as I am a huge fan of her Hannah Swensen series but I am willing to try different books written by her. In this case, I am glad I did because she pleases the reader again with an intriguing story. I would give this book a 5 out of 5 for the rating.
