This book is more than just a British comedy. Randy the Irresistible covers all the bases such as humour, life lessons, family, and homosexuality. I certainly didn't expect all of this to be packed into this novel when I picked it up!

The novel starts with a preface that talks about Randy Love's family. His older brother, James, is successful and married, and his older sister, Harriet, is working and successful as well. Randy, on the other hand, has John Love, his father, worried. Randy, though well educated, has yet to complete his university education, and currently is just living off his father's money. We get to see the character development of Randy at every stage as he is faced with several opportunities. He gives an exam and passes with flying colours, only to get offered a job in London. Upon moving to London, Randy starts facing problems with his landlords, housemates, girls, and even his friends. Things aren't going very smoothly for him, and readers will have to read on to find out more about his adventures.

What I like most about the book is how the comedy is integrated into the story. S M Goodier really wrote the book nicely. It's fun to read about the stories Randy and his friend have while they are out drinking together. Randy lacks common sense to the extent that it takes him quite a while to figure out the central heating of his apartment. "Interesting thought that, I would say I'm the one who lives in the real world," James Love once said to Randy. That statement tells us a lot about Randy, who still thinks the world should only listen to him. He sleeps around with girls, not wanting to settle down because that thought repulses him. We get to see his progress slowly throughout the book.

There is nothing I hate about the novel. It's a pleasant and funny work to pass the time with. All the characters have a certain importance in the story, and the work is fast-paced. I did not find any errors in the book. The book does have a lot of profane language and content that is erotic in nature.

I would rate Randy the Irresistible 4 out of 4 stars for the reasons I mentioned above. The novel is a treat, and I would recommend it to young adults and above who want an afternoon full of laughter.
