Waves Break (on Unknown Shores) is a mystery thriller novel written by Barry Litherland and explores themes of friendship, romance, revenge and loyalty.

"A stone has fallen in a pool and those ripples are spreading ever outwards,
and no one knows where they’ll break.
On unknown shores, I guess."

Phillip Tyler, a young journalist for his town's local newspaper, gets caught up in a situation he never thought was possible. Two robberies and a murder results in the revealing of a corrupted past that more than a few dangerous and powerful people don't want uncovered. Confronted by death and racing against time, Philip needs to find a mysterious package that could possibly contain the truth to everything and key to putting away some very dangerous people. Can Philip beat time and uncover the truth, while fighting off the painful memories of his past?

The author jumps between past and present events, creating a flow throughout the chapters. The way the the chapters switch from past to present gives the idea that events in the past are the key to figuring out what is happening in the present, going in depth about the characters' past lives.

The descriptions and first person narrative of the book made me feel like I was living through the events myself, as if I was standing right next to the characters while the story was happening. I couldn't really find anything that I didn't like about this book, nor were there any errors I noticed while reading. The book is extremely well edited as well as entertaining.

All in all, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The story flowed smoothly despite the jumps between past and present. I'd recommend this book to adults who love to uncover a good mystery, however I would discourage very young readers to pick this book as scenes such as bullying, violence and profanity are depicted right through the storyline. Other than that I can say with full confidence that this book is well worth reading.
