If Ernest Hemingway ever wanted or yearned for a daughter, Finn Hemingway could be the answer. It is about the fictional character, Finley Hemingway; Flea to her father and Finn to the world.

The book has successfully portrayed the father-daughter relationship. Finn is all about her father, or that is what the book is about. Finn's relationship with her father is interlaced with understanding and insecurities. He was the most stationary thing to her and vice versa. And you being the prime focus of someone is something that’s too cool. Finn is a papa’s girl, who yearns for his acknowledgment, appreciation and many others, yet a daughter who understands him well. The author has successfully blended many relationships into the plot. Hemingway as a father, as a lover, as a writer and what is that to Finn.

I love the way the author depicted Finn as a strong woman who overcame her emotional and professional hurdles successfully. I was looking at an ambitious and strong girl with clear ideas of life. The way she wants to get out of the rulebook, how she is fighting to undo the things that might befall on her. Finn is dealing with; her love life – fighting her belief of ‘how love doesn’t end good for Hemmingway’s’, her family, her career- fighting the patriarchy deeply embedded in her profession as best as she could. When we are in our better mood or status no one can beat the pleasant person in you. But in a reverse situation you are doomed; it takes efforts to be a better person at that situation.

The only thing that I felt off was that the ending was a bit rushed. I would have loved to have a bit more detailed and unhurried finish.

There are some books that leave a mark on you and this is one of them. This is the kind of book that would make you want to know more. I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I was not exposed to any errors, so I think that the book is exceptionally well-edited. Hemingway’s Daughter by Christine M. Whitehead, had the power to push you towards a person called Ernest Hemingway, his works and his life. I got deeply interested in him after this book. In a personal context, the book made me miss a father figure in life who loves you unconditionally and who yells at you for the most unreasonable things and yet always support you at your crazy aspirations.
