The book Break the Chains of Dieting emphasizes the importance of following a healthy lifestyle, instead of the latest diet trends, and the hundreds of diet recommendations that most people follow during their lifetimes. It is very well-written, in plain simple and encouraging sentences. It convinced me to follow his advice on changing my lifestyle. Along with excellent recommendations that the author, David Medansky, himself has tried, and has given him the edge on losing himself 50 pounds in a matter of months. The author treats the current food industry for what it is: a mega-machine intended to make a profit out of everyone, disregarding the overall health of their consumers. It encourages the reader to follow his '9 fundamental must-have principles for healthy weight loss', which I find very accurate on treating food in general as an addictive compound. Due to the profit-based goals of most food companies as he outlined them in the book. Also including the nocive ingredients by name, asking the reader to avoid them at all costs.

The author also uses persuasive psychology in the later chapters of the book, talking about the importance of being responsible for our own actions, this including what we put into our mouths, without feelings of victimization or placing blame. Very similar to a 12 step program. The reader then is encouraged to make not only changes in habits, but to write diaries and affirmations. Treating the obesity problem with a holistic and spiritual approach, very rare to find elsewhere. I find this to be very accurate and useful in general for someone who wants to eliminate extra pounds, because it arms the person with more tools and weapons against the cravings and temptations that, as he said, will inevitably come along the way.

The only downside I find is perhaps the need of a chapter describing how to make some healthy and holistic recipes. As informative and useful this book is, some would want to make recipes based on the author's recommendations.

I can give this book a 4 out of 4 stars rating because of its valuable input on how essentially it describes the reality of the actual food industry, how food was made to make us always crave more and be unsatisfied. And how we can overcome these very same obstacles in a holistic and responsible way.

This book is recommended for someone who has lost any sort of hope on following diets, or trends, that as the author says are just destined to make people fail and start all over. It expresses very well the need for a different approach that places the way we take to eliminate extra weight as more important than anything else.
