Review of Seeing with Fresh Eyes
In a world where there are a lot of beliefs, tensions, wars, and disunities, most of which could be attributed to religion and the different belief systems, Seeing with Fresh Eyes by John W. Bullock acts as an amazing eye-opener, not only for Christians but also for the entire human race. Bullock addresses different Biblical passages as he strives to bring the message closer. As Christians, it may be so easy to live by the rules and laws, things that we let govern our lives without even trying to understand them and how they define us. It’s so easy for one to judge the deeds of someone else, basing their justification on a set of laws they expect the other party to live by. We end up forgetting the bigger purpose we have and restrict ourselves to just what we know or what was said in a single scripture. Bullock’s book helps us see with fresh eyes as he takes us through the Bible, from when man is created, his fall, then all the way to the crucifixion of Jesus and its implication to the believers and humankind at large. This isn’t just a story, it’s the way that we ought to live, relate and interact with each other and God.
There are several aspects that stood out about this book. The author tries in a very simple way to capture the most relevant and relatable passages in the Bible that help the reader to understand exactly what the author intends for us to take home. Bullock goes ahead to touch on most of the scriptures and their relevance to us. By reading the book, it’s as if you are in more than 100 different Sunday services in the church, because that’s just what the book itself is. Additionally, the many scriptures captured act as reference points, and they really help in such a way that one can always go back and look for the quoted verses for further studies. Another positive thing is how the author states his facts and tries to open our eyes to his understanding without mocking people’s beliefs and practices. The book is an invitation for the reader to give things another look and acknowledge God for whom He truly is.
As for the downside, I would say that there are no negative aspects to it. It was exceptionally well-edited and precisely passed the intended message.
John W. Bullock’s Seeing with Fresh Eyes gets a 4 out of 4 rating. This is based on the chronological flow of thoughts and ideas, which makes it simple for one to understand where we are coming from and where we are heading. The book is also very relatable because there are real examples that a reader can come across, and they can attest to having been there or experienced such a thing at one point in their Christian life. This simply implies that the author is also talking from an experience, and that makes it easy to follow along and appreciate the book.
Based on the thoughts, message, and nature of the book, I would recommend it to believers in Christ, both those who have a deeper understanding of the word, and those who are still green and have a lot of questions about just anything addressed in the Bible. Seeing With Fresh Eyes will make their journey a bit easier moving forward.
