"Life has a beautiful way of knocking over all pedestals in short time."

Do you think the following sentence objectively grammatically incorrect:

"Life has a beautiful way of knocking over all pedestals in short time."

Certainly, the more common way to write the phrase would be "in a short time" rather than "in short time". However, as a matter of style, is it acceptable to alternatively write as it is above. Or would you mark that way of writing is an objective style-independent error?

I believe I would be marked down for doing this as had already happened in the past. If the sentence was reworded would it still be correct?

"In short time, life has a beautiful way of knocking over all pedestals."
