Review of Seeking... Finding... Healing...
The past is filled with memories that never fade. Our childhood experiences affect our physical, mental and emotional well-being with regard to the kind of environment we were brought up in and parental care. Childhood traumas are often caused by abusive parents or being brought up in a dysfunctional family. The afflictions of the past are a great burden to bear and more often than not, we seek refuge in others in order to be relieved of our pain.
Seeking...Finding...Healing by Becky Lu Jackson is a guidebook offering a solution to those who may be feeling hopeless and burdened with their life experiences. We are introduced to the concept of an inner family. The inner family comprises our mental, physical and spiritual selves. Therefore, familiarity with one's psyche is important so as to enable the inner family healing process. In this insightful book, we learn how to create that connection between our humanness and spiritual being. The spiritual being has a source, a Higher Power, who leads and guides our steps in divine order. With inner family healing comes spiritual wisdom and strengths. We have the understanding that God is in control and not other externalities.
There are foundational aspects to the inner family healing work, which when discovered and applied bear great fruits to the healing process. The first step in the inner family healing process is seeking, where one searches deep down into their subconscious mind to unravel the past. The author gives a step-by-step visualization guide on how this can be achieved. The author points out that in this inner family healing process, we have to build our self-trust. This trust is built when we reflect on our younger selves and replace the life perspectives and belief systems that we had with spiritually led knowledge and positive affirmations. It is somewhat of a self-parenting process. In our inner family, there is the presence of a spiritual team whom we can count on for giving us the needed wisdom.
The second step is finding where we try to understand the meaning behind our childhood traumas and pain. Through the guided visualization, we can decode our experiences with the wisdom of the spiritual team and in turn, apply these spiritual principles to our daily living. This phase can be very difficult and discouraging as you begin but as you progress, the process is very fulfilling. This phase also requires a lot of courage and willingness because our younger selves were filled with brokenness and resentments that need to be repaired.
The final and most important step is healing, where we learn how to appreciate ourselves no matter the imperfections that we have. In other words, the goal of the inner family healing process is self-appreciation. Applying the spiritual principle of integrity towards our self-care is of great benefit as it builds our self-esteem and we learn to appreciate ourselves. The outcome of inner family healing is inner peace no matter the circumstances, self-admiration and the spiritual faith that there are no mistakes in God's universe.
Envisioning our future selves is of great value as it gives us a sense of direction. Through the guided meditations, we can embark on a self-nurturing process where we use spiritual principles to guide our imaginative younger selves and this is of great benefit as we grow intolerant of the negativities and naive perspectives that we had in the past. It is through spiritual wisdom that one can break free from addictions that one may be struggling with. Important lessons I gathered from this book are that validity comes from self and that true freedom is attained when we learn to embrace our imperfections.
The author shares some of her experiences and the testimonies of some of her clients who came to her for guidance and counselling. All of her clients gave positive feedback regarding the inner family healing process as they applied the foundational tools to their healing journey. I found no negative aspects regarding this book and It is well edited having no errors. I can't deny a single star to this masterpiece and I will give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I can recommend this book to psychologists and therapists as it can be an important coaching tool in guidance and counselling.
