Review of Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula
Inca, the detective cat, is on a mission. Together with her sister and brother, Cara and Fromage respectively, not forgetting Charlotte and Terrance, they set out on an unforgettable adventure in the Korean Peninsula. This is when their mum is invited to judge one of the most prestigious cooking competitions that had participants coming from both North and South Korea.
A close shave happens when mum's rival, Enzo, almost gets away with her priced cheese. They meet their new tour guide, Yen Ji, who welcomes them into his home. The kitties and Terrance, the detective dog, meet Baram, who unveils a mystery leading them to an exhilarating experience. Find out more about their adventure in R.F. Kristi's Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula.
The book has an authentic feel to it and uniqueness with how it describes the cats' different personalities and characters. In addition to this, the delivery of the plot is top-notch. I love Inca's courage and how she never backs down from a challenge. Her wit, together with her team's support, proves them unstoppable. Despite Fromage being a little bit selfish sometimes, he shows his loyal nature when Enzo tries to sabotage mum's performance and presentation — both at the airport and at the show. The author's ability to capture the attention of the reader is commendable. This is evident when Solo and Yen Ji plan to cross over to the northern part of the Korean Peninsula even though it was illegal. It left me wondering what was going to happen next.
I appreciate the author's art of spinning a tale and paying attention to each character. The illustrations are appealing to the eye and well done. I love how the story turns out when Ji and Bo Mi finally reunite Yen Ji with Baram. The build-up of events chronologically up to the climax makes the story very enjoyable. The book employs the use of simple and easy-to-understand English, which enables a reader to fully comprehend what he or she is reading. I also love the fact that the book took me to a different dimension through the vivid description of places, foods, items, and people.
The book is perfectly edited, and I found no errors. The storyline is enjoyable, too. It is well illustrated with colorful pictures that are fun and exciting to look at. Finding no negative aspects, I rate the book 4 out of 4. I recommend this book to children from the age of seven who enjoy adventurous and thrilling books.
