Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F Kristi is number seven in the Inca Book Series. Set in Sri Lanka, Inca the cat and her other animal friends hear of a theft that occurred at a museum a few days prior. With Inca being a detective who runs the Inca & Company detective agency, she cannot help but attempt to solve the mystery before the human detectives can. Inca goes on an adventure with her friends, old and new, as she balances her family vacation with her detective vocation.

This book was very charming. Full of humor, this story is educational without appearing to be. Kristi adds information about Sri Lanka and its indigenous animals into the book in a way that enhances the story. She also uses words that will definitely enhance the vocabulary of young readers. From the word ‘serendipity’ in the title to words like ‘diminutive’ and ‘oasis’ that are sprinkled throughout the story, this book proves that even fiction can be excellent for educating young children.

While there was plenty of action and adventure, the actual mystery itself was a bit simplistic. While this may be a good thing for beginner readers, older kids may be turned off by this. Otherwise, I have nothing else negative to say about this book.

I rate this book four out of four stars. As mentioned above, there is very little that is negative about this book. Both the writing and the illustrations made me smile, and I am glad that this is a series so that children can read other adventures about Inca and friends as well.

I would recommend this book to children ages 7-11, although mature 10 and 11 year olds may be at a higher reading level. This book is great for kids who love mysteries with fun characters and many adventures along the way.
