Light in the Dark, by Jerry Johnston, is a fictional fantasy book with four parts: A Twist in Destiny, Return to Nyghtoria, and The Good, The Light, The Love. Its setting is shifted back and forth between the real and imaginary worlds, referred to as dimensions, and the characters move within the dimensions under the influence of supernatural powers.

It begins in a children's home in Panorama City, where a young girl named Roceane plans to escape. She has a book whose contents are part of the reason she wants to run away. Her escape was successful, but she did not complete the entire mission. In the streets of Panorama, where Roceane was standing, a bright light was heading toward her. Stefaan, following her, noticed the bright light in motion and quickly ran to save her before she could be hit. An explosion left Roceane with some injuries. She was rushed to the hospital while Stefaan was missing at the scene. The scene shifts to a street in Nyghtoria, where Stefaan awakens in disbelief. A government official and his bodyguard took him to their quarters and told him that his coming was not a coincidence and that they were aware of his mission. Stefaan realizes that the task ahead of him needs the company of Roceane and her book. How will Stefaan travel back to the other dimension to get Roceane? Will Roceane ever forgive him for cutting short her mission?

This book felt so real, despite being a fantasy. Most characters have human qualities like speaking and showing emotions, which makes the story feel real. Another positive aspect of the book is that it is not only about fantasy and supernatural powers to entertain readers but also a tool to motivate people living in real life. Its story shows how the darkness of the heart makes humans destroy each other, while light brings peace and all that is good among people. The author goes on to show that everything in life happens for a reason and that weakness and failure are illusions that evil uses as a trap to manifest in humans. For example, after Stefaan lost his wife and two children, he considered himself a loser and a careless man. Still, he realizes later that his family is somewhere else on a mission to save humanity and that he is also being prepared for an enormous task ahead.

I saw no negatives in the plot, but I encountered typo errors, most of which were punctuation errors. This book was well edited but not to the standard required. As a result, I suggest another round of editing. Because of the above editing issues, I rate Light in the Dark 3 out of 4 stars.

Lovers of fantasy stories blended with war and mystery will enjoy this book. I also recommend it to individuals who doubt their purpose in life. The stories of the different book characters will help motivate them.

I like to read fantasy stories that have human-like characters. Their emotions closely parallel our own. I am not only interested in finding out if Roceana completes her mission, but also what it is.

What could be the reason why Roceane's mission wasn't successful, I guess I would have to read the book. Great review.

I'm not sure this novel is for me, as I might be too old and I'm not searching for a purpose in life but it seems to have a number of positive elements. Regardless, thank you for your great review!
