Review of Pie or Pi
Pie or Pi is a fiction book by Sambulo Kunene that describes a family's daily life. Lindsay is the wife of an executive and a housewife. She and her husband live in Pie with their twin boys. On weekdays, Lindsay would prepare herself, breakfast, and the boys. She will take them to school while her husband prepares for work. Their weekdays are usually repetitive, as their daily routine was the same. Being a housewife is not easy for Lindsay, as she would have to clean the house, cook lunch, and prepare to pick up the boys from school. Her husband, a wealthy businessman, would sometimes travel on business trips that were either planned or impromptu. Sometimes after a tough week, Lindsay's husband will take the children and his wife out for relaxation. One day, her husband told her about a therapist he thought they should see, and she agreed. Will bringing a third person into their marriage be beneficial? Or will it strengthen their bond the more?
Pie or Pi focuses on the life of Lindsay as a housewife, the wife of an executive, and a mother. Her life feels relatable in all three aspects, and their family setting is understandable. The setting of this literary work is usually the family's house, business area, school, and vacation places. Despite being an affluent family, the couple still had issues like a disagreement or an argument which they would finally solve and return to their old self. This book pictures the children of Lindsay, the twins, as little boys and continues as such till they are young teens and adults.
While reading through it, I love the fact that this book is highly comprehendible. I also noticed that Lindsay, a housewife, was close to the kids and kept a close eye on them. The couple's enthusiastic effort to meet with the therapist was an appealing aspect of the book. They did not wait for their marriage to be in great danger before seeking help. Her husband flatly refused his mum when she told him not to see a therapist, as he knew it was crucial. In conclusion, notwithstanding his long weekdays of hard work, Lindsay's husband would make time to take his family out for some relaxation, bringing him closer to his children and wife.
What I found very dislikeable was that the characters were not well introduced. For instance, characters like Lindsay's husband and sons lacked names. Furthermore, throughout the 119 pages of the book, I detected various errors that were quite disturbing to me.
I would rate this literary fiction 3 out of 4 stars, as it was not professionally edited. I would recommend Pie or Pi by Sambulo Kunene to readers who love books focused on a family's daily life.
