Brimstone By: Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

A great supernatural crime mystery! Brimstone brings your imagination to life and makes you question reality right along with the detectives. Our main characters are portrayed as your everyday gumshoe detective and an FBI agent who borders on an X-Files type personality.
D'Acosta and the mysterious agent Pendergast team up to help fight what looks like Satan himself. In doing so, they encounter the men who possibly conjured him up and in the end, they may turn out to be worse than if it was Satan.
Teaming up against some very rich, powerful and eccentric individuals, our crime solvers take us on a journey around the world to track down one very interesting murderer. From Long Island to Italy, Preston and Child combine their talents to make a superbly descriptive story filled with some pretty dramatic imagery.
Not only that, throw in a very mysterious assassin and a little romance and you have a great read!
Loved this book.

Brimstone is #5 in a series of crime thriller novels written by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Although they can be read as standalone novels, the series itself is best enjoyed from start to finish. Brimstone finds FBI Special Agent Pendergast, simply one of the best characters to ever grace a thriller page, and police officers Vincent D'Agosta and Laura Heyward facing a classic murder mystery; a man's smoldering ashes are found in a locked room with no way in or out for the murderer. There's only one clue - a hoof print burned into the floor.

The chase is on for the killer of the Long Island art dealer before he kills again. The pace of the Preston/Child books are fast and the characters so much better than the traditional gumshoe detectives. Do yourself a favor and check these books out!
