Review of Glass Sneakers by Freesia Lockheart

Post by rariann »

Freesia Lockheart is an author to lookout for. Glass Sneakers is a well written Cinderella coming of age story with a twist. There is the not so royal family background but there is no evil step mother as the protagonist Georgiette or George as she is called in the novel and her step mother are exceptionally close. The family background contains a narcissistic mother, loving stepmother, soul-searching father and jealous step father.

George is forced to compete for the role of wife to the prince, and become a princess in training, when she becomes unemployed. As an unlikely candidate she makes it and has to comes to term with previous betrayal, ongoing betrayal and keeping her family background a secret so she can become successful in the competition.

The novel is very well written, and the characters are likable and easy to relate to. However sometimes it feels like the novel is going nowhere fast as some chapters are extremely boring and seemingly serve no purpose in the actual development of the story. The book is not overwhelmed with too much characters so it easy to keep track of who everyone is and what purpose they serve.

I would recommend this book to others but with a warning it will take quite a while to finish the story.
