The outsider by Albert Camus

A very simple written book about a man bored with life and bored with himself. He doesn't take interest in anything, doesn't care about no one and doesn't cry to his mom's funeral. I kept on reading the book because the character seemed very interesting in his sameness, and I was proven right.
After his mom's death, the main character strikes some odd bounds with "a mistress" ( the outsider feels indifference for her and marriage itself) "Salamano" (a man known for his violence towards his dog "stare at each other, the dog in terror, the man in hatred") and "Raymond" (a friend for whom our main character will commit murder). The outsider stands trial for the murder and by the end of it will be executed for his lack of tears facing the news and the whole burial process. People found him guilty of many things but he stands innocent though; given the choice of lying and saving his life; telling the truth - saving his integrity and every thing he believed in, he chose the truth. He chose not to lie asked about any regrets that might have for murdering a man: "I feel more annoyance about it then true regret." About his mom's death he says: "So close to death, mother must have felt liberated and ready to live again. No one, no one at all had any right to cry over her". There you have it. A lesson is always learned the hard way.
