ARA Review by Carol Busby of In It Together

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

I am not a fan of self-help books. However, in reading In It Together, I found much of my own journey to good mental health. After decades in therapy, I learned to forgive myself and to move on from past pain. This book explains why that's necessary for a healthy life.

I also liked that Mr. Hughes emphasized that we all need to love each other. We're all in this together and the more we accept other people, with all their benefits and flaws, the better off the world will be.

The chapter on the two yous was particularly interesting. Billy Joel has a line in a song that says,
Why were you so surprised
That you never saw the stranger?
Did you ever let your lover see
The stranger in yourself?

I think that explains the two yous in a nutshell. Mr. Hughes explains it in much more detail which will be useful to anyone trying to understand who they are and why they are and how those things make a whole.
