Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer.
The main theme of this book is the importance of planning ahead. Our author is an experienced financial planner who created this program to address what is really missing in planning ahead for retirement.

The book is about reconfiguring your life at any stage and planning ahead. We are discouraged on quitting our jobs without planning ahead. Seventy percent of Americans do not like their jobs however we are encouraged to plan ahead before we quit. Our current financial industry practices the concept that we should work as hard as possible while saving as much as possible and subsequently using as little as possible. The author however suggests a concept for structuring a life that allows the worker to earn less for a short period of time and overtime increase their income hence encouraging consumers to be gainfully employed past the traditional age of sixty five.

Mr. Alan argues that our life expectancy has increased from sixty two to eighty. We now have thirty more years of adulthood and we have to cope for it. Changes in medicine, health, nutrition, exercise has increased our life span. We have added fully active years in our lives but how are we really going to survive. Planning ahead is an important process in reconfigurement. The author talks about disability insurance which is statistically the most needed and the most overlooked type of insurance. Unlike fire and home insurance people tend to assume they might not need it. According to Principal financial, Inc., the odds that you will have a disabling accident are one out of twenty one while the chance that you will have a fire at home is one out of ninety six. We get to understand the difference between a group disability policy and a personal disability insurance policy. One should take serious consideration of the two while looking for a suitable work place.

We get a series of assessment tests which are supposed to tell us more about our career and personal life. This is a step further in the reconfiguring process. Retirement planning is about creating a strategy along with specific steps to follow it. The author talks about investing in mutual funds. We get to see each type of mutual funds, their differences and their profits. Mr. Fleischauer also discussed 401ks, health insurance, long term care, wills, 529 plans and so much more that will be crucial to the reconfigurement process.

The book was very fun to read and it had some financial jokes throughout which made it quite enjoyable. In the end the author recommended some really good books that touch on career testing, working from home and part-time work. He advises us to make sure we have fun before we retire by joining clubs or groups centered on our interests, or take a crack at exercise and eating well.

I give this book a solid 4 out of 4 as it was quite fun to read and the editors did a superb job there were little to no errors. This book has a lot of financial information that seems quite crucial to planning ahead. I recommend this book to people who are planning to retire in a few years or immediately and do not know where to begin. This book is also suitable to anyone who is career testing there are some pointers in here that might come in handy.
