As a premier litigator in Boston and a New York Yankee sympathiser, Jane Brucelli is the ideal target for Boston Red Sox fanatics, who were her fellow legal professionals. A single blunder on October 28th of 2004, disputing the Boston Red Sox's win after over eighty years as the greatest miracle in sports history, leads to a series of unpleasant experiences for the Brucelli couple. Jane’s antagonists in the legal community and the media take this verbal gaffe to new, unexpected levels. This minor insignificant statement, taken out of context, spreads through all of New England, forming new challenges and enemies for Jane along the way, leaving her life in a state of disarray. She desperately tries to prove that her statement is based on facts and not an attempt to downplay the Red Sox's win. She comes close to giving in to her dishonourable counterparts and following in their idea of baseball righteousness in order to retain her stance in the legal world, but she perseveres in hopes that the issue dies down. Brucelli and the Old Professor: Anatomy of a Miracle tells a story of overcoming oppression from an untouchable legal icon and his gullible followers with honesty and perseverance.

I loved how comedy was infused into a story containing such significant plots. Jane’s clever use of scientific terms to offend her rivals without their knowledge and the courtroom banter made the story even more interesting and provided comic relief in tense parts of the story. I admired the writer’s ability to mix several different plots on the baseball controversy and the legal system in a fluid fashion; that added depth and complexity to the story and kept me engaged the whole time. There were many baseball terminologies and analyses throughout the entire book, and I learnt a lot about the game from it. Also, legal vocabulary made the book a lot more educational. I learnt so many things I hadn’t known before about different concepts in this book. The addition of dates to specific events was a big plus for me as it strengthened the already great structure of the book and made for a better organisation of the story.

I wasn't impressed by the fact that there was some name misplacement in the book. One notably misplaced name was that of the housekeeper of the Brucellis, Emma, which can be seen as 'Edna' in certain chapters. The book also contains a few errors, even though I believe it was professionally edited.

I rate this book three out of four stars. The overall plot was very entertaining, but I deducted a star because of the errors I found in the book and my belief that the author could have done better than misplacing the name of a character on many occasions. Based on my understanding of how much of a great writer he is from the quality of this story, I feel the misplacement of names could have been easily avoided.

Brucelli and the Old Professor: Anatomy of a Miracle is recommended to anyone interested in baseball or law. This book is also a good fit for anyone looking for an amusing read with peculiar characters.

Book, movies, etc on the law get some level of interest for me. Now having it mix with comedy, can just get me stuck 😂😂.
Nice review.
