ARA Review by Viola Weisz of In It Together

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

In fairness, I don't know how to rate this book. During the first third, I wondered why I had chosen to read it, other than the promise of reviews for my own work. I imagined a writer who had just completed his first semester of graduate classes in philosophy and was spitting back all the cool stuff he learned. Also, too much of the text seemed to be about what the book wasn't, rather than what it is.

In the latter portions of the text, I found many worthwhile ideas, though I still felt the author multiplied words and examples far beyond what is needful to make his points.

Are his conclusions of value? Yes, although I prefer to use a more spiritual vocabulary for similar ideas. Will love conquer all? Perhaps, in an eternal, spiritual perspective.

Overall, I'm glad I spent the time to dig through the wordiness, discover the nuggets of divine wisdom, and appreciate the grand views of the human soul Hughes shares here.
