Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fantasy novel. It relates the story of the kingdom of Voulhire and the people in it. This is the first book in the series, and it introduces the readers to the exceptional range of characters in the kingdom of Voulhire. Beginning with two separate tales, the narrative eventually merges to become one. Galen will soon become the proprietor of a new business in the city, but dark forces are also preparing to wreak havoc and destabilize the kingdom.
The novel opens with the tale of Galen Bray, who uses Rowan, the executor of his uncle's will, to flee his war-torn country and find refuge in Voulhire. Galen has spent his entire life on an island that has been devastated by war and misery. When he unexpectedly inherits a fortune, his life is completely turned around. Galen now wants to start over in the wealthy Kingdom of Voulhire while cherishing the riches it may provide him, so he seizes the chance to leave his oppressive home country.
It was surprising to learn that many other characters, including Rowan, Wilhelm, and Maido, are involved throughout the book and that the main action primarily centers on the kingdom and the threat threatening its tranquil environment. Galen Bray's introduction in the first chapter gave the impression that the story is primarily about him. Despite their connections, the characters all have their own unique role and fate.
This book was a good read, although I’m not used to novels of this kind. I liked the fact that the book wasn’t predictable. I also like that the author didn’t place all the focus on only one character but gave every character their moment. The book does contain words that are not common, but the author included a glossary at the end of the book, which was a great help.
There wasn’t much to dislike about this book, but one thing I didn’t like was the number of characters. The characters did get too much to keep up with, and it got me a bit confused sometimes. So this means you have to pay full attention whilst reading this book so that you can follow up with the characters. I did not encounter any errors, so I’ll say the book was exceptionally well edited. The book was a good one, and so I award full ratings, 4 out of 4 stars.
I’ll recommend this book to lovers of the fantasy genre of fiction. However, persons who find the use of profanity displeasing should avoid this book, as it contains some instances of that. Also, if you enjoy suspense, this book is for you.
