Paper Towns by John Green

Post by meg-reads »

Paper Towns was my first ever John Green book, and perhaps it is for that reason that it is also my favourite John Green book. Paper Towns was not at ALL what I had expected. It is a mystery novel in a sense. Q searches for Margo; he is a kind of detective in this way. Q also searches for himself perhaps unknowingly. He gains independence and learns to accept himself.
I enjoyed the "romance" aspect of this novel, not that it is overly romantic. Actually, that is what I liked about it. Quentin realizes that Margo is not this amazing, ideal, mysterious woman. Margo is just a girl. Plain and simple. Quentin teaches us as readers not to idolize the people that we love, because they are just people. I think this is an important topic in young adult fiction as many of us young adult readers have or are experiencing love for the first time.
Paper Towns is a navigation guide for young people.
