John Green's Looking for Alaska

Post by meg-reads »

Wow, I found this book oh so disappointing. I found it to be far too similar to Paper Towns. I realize that Looking for Alaska was written first, but I read Paper Towns first so my opinion is bias. I disliked the over-all plot and did not feel connected to the characters. Alaska's character in my opinion was far too reckless. I have never known someone like her and probably never will because she seems unrealistic. This book seemed to be an ideal kind of false reality. There is a boy who is obsessed with last words - it is basically his entire life... again, unrealistic. People generally have more than one interest in life. Then there is a girl who he falls in love with who is the melodramatic girl people fantasize about knowing and having break their heart. Personally, I did not find anything at all relatable in this book - and not in a positive 'what a great escape from reality' type of way.
Sorry John Green, still love you, man!
