We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz, is a story about many characters such as Galen Bray, the new arrival to Voulhire in hope of a new life. Lord Eldus, the new Lord of the small fishing town- Hillport, King Willhelm Arcelor- the much-loved King of Voulhire, The Riva Rohavi- an anti-monarchy group that causes trouble wherever they go and last but not least Meldorath- the most feared mage in all the land. Voulhire has entered its golden age and brings hope to the people who have worked hard to get to an age that promises wealth and peace to all. Everything seems to be on a good path for the characters as each chapter tells a new viewpoint to the plot but there may be a terrible plot to usurp the monarchy and destroy all that has been created. A story filled with politics, religion, adventure, and magic leads to an enthralling read.

I was absolutely besotted with the story and all the characters that filled the fictional world of Voulhire. Each character had complex backgrounds and their own sometimes questionable motives for their actions and their journeys in the vast and wonderful land of Voulhire. The fact that the author chose to dedicate a chapter to a character so that you could see how that character's story adds to the overall plot was an excellent alternative to the common day novel. The author's use of descriptive ways to immerse the reader into the magical world was witty and it had allowed for the reader to create attachments to the characters. I noted that in many instances that the author chose to write in the third person for all characters except the character Galen Bray. This seemed to create a more intimate connection to this humble character and his story.

There is not a lot I can say negatively about this book as I enjoyed every moment of reading it and that's not an understatement. The one thing I can say is that, knowing this book is more of an introduction to the world of Voulhire, I sometimes felt it a bit of a heavy read due to the large amount of history of the world, the kings of past and also the connections each character had to one another. There is also a shocking moment that left me quite sad but didn't take away from the overall enjoyment.

The book was incredibly well-written and professionally edited. The use of a higher standard of the English vocabulary, though creating a better understanding of what the book entailed, would make me suggest that a more mature audience should read it, from young adults to older. There is also the use of profanity and mature/graphic topics that are not suitable for a younger audience. In ending, I would, without hesitation, give this book a 4 out of 4 stars for its enchanting storytelling and lovable characters.
