Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Matthew Tysz presents We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, the debut novel in the We are Voulhire series. The Voulhire kingdom is currently experiencing its golden age. It is the envy of a world that is changing quickly. But the residents of Voulhire are fighting for a sense of identity in these days of conventional prosperity. Magic, science, and faith make promises of an ideal world and give those unsure of their purpose an identity. Unfortunately, Voulhire, a small land at sea in an envious world, is home to many powerful individuals with agendas. Some of them are not noble. Meanwhile, Galen, an immigrant from a land with brutal war, arrives in Voulhire ready to serve his new home. Although his journey begins with inheriting a forge, it becomes a roller-coaster of action, adventure, and magic. No one could fathom what the young immigrant would do for Voulhire.
The best aspect of the novel is that the author, Matthew Tysz, creates his world in a detailed manner. Everything you might anticipate in a society is present in Voulhire, including a functioning monarchy, religion and faith, caste systems, and much more. These particulars give the tale a more authentic feel. They provide the reader with a sense of immersion in the narrative. It also speaks to the author’s literary prowess.
The fact that the point of view alternates in multiple chapters is another appealing feature of this work. The author recounts the novel from the perspectives of various characters who are coping with the effects of the alleged death of a mighty lord. Multiple perspective shifts give the various narratives more complexity because there are so many characters, and each experience different things in different chapters.
Because of the excellent plot, realistic location, and incredible writing style and structure of the author, I give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. The novel is quite enjoyable to read, especially with the multiple shifts in perspective. It is also flawlessly edited and free of mistakes. I think the book has plenty of positive aspects and no negative features.
The novel We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under the Great Skies by Matthew Tysz has elements of magic and mysticism reminiscent of books like Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings. There is plenty of magic, spells and adventure. I recommend the book to fans of fantasy fiction over sixteen years old.
