This book is a blend of science and Christianity. I am so accustomed to the concept that science is always in contrast with the Bible. But they both meet on the concept that there must be an explanation of how the world came to be. An ancient philosophical principle known as Kalam’s principles states that everything that begins to exist has a cause. Who was there before the world came to being? Science suggests Big Bang Theory but the Bible refers to God, the Creator. The book dives into human evolution by Charles Darwin and how human beings rise up from the food chain.

The author tackles where the light comes from which refers to the sun, cosmogenesis, which expounds the Big Bang Theory, planetogenesis, which reveals that our galaxy is not alone, geogenesis, which makes you appreciate more the intricate design of our planet for the survival of the species, and biogenesis which discusses how the origin of life and how living things survive and interact with each other.

Homogenesis is also an important aspect of the book. It refers to how offspring resemble their parents. It emphasizes that human beings have many similarities with other animals.
I love the idea of noogenesis, which is the maturation of intelligence. It highlights how the man lifts himself up from the food chain. He dominates other creatures and his environment. The noosphere is a special kind of evolutionary intelligence that needs the spiritual power of God to attain.

The only thing I dislike about the book is the information overload. My brain cannot take in all the details. It is mentally draining. It is necessary to sleep after reading this to retain some of the information.

The book is exceptionally well edited. There is nothing wrong about the book.

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: Evolution and the Noosphere by P D Botha deserves a five out of five stars for me. It is informative and insightful. If you’re a Christian, you will appreciate the topic of christogenesis, which is coined by Teilhard de Chardin. It refers to the role of God in the evolution and the redemptive work of Christ. The book’s finale is the second coming of Christ.

I love the appeal of the author at the end. “Why do we have a brain then?” He believes that it really makes sense to believe in Christ even if it proves to be untrue.

I recommend this book to Christians and non-Christians.
