Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
The first installment in Matthew Tysz's Voulhire series, We Are Voulhire : A New Arrival Under Great Skies is a wonderful introduction into the world of Voulhire and also an amazing start to the series that I can't wait to read more of in the coming months. It is the introductory book to a seven book series with multiple perspectives spread all over Voulhire as well as a map of the land and a page dedicated to a description of who each character is at the beginning of the book. Usually with fantasy books there is the worry that you will not be able to remember any of the characters when they have strange names that just look like a bunch of letters thrown together haphazardly, but I am glad to say that this was not the case. The story was easy to follow and the characters easily recognized.
It starts off with a bit of backstory to the Castle of Hillport and what took place there, then it moves onto our first main character Galen Bray from The Land of Princes, we get to follow him on his journey to a new land and a new life where he no longer has to live in a land that is constantly at war and therefore you either die by sword or from starvation. Many great things await him in this new land, the main one being what his great uncle left for him after he passed. Throughout the book we get glimpses of what is happening all throughout the land and we get to see how all of these events fit together to great a much bigger picture that is Voulhire.
Characters are regularly added to keep it fresh and interesting, but not too many to the point where one cannot keep track of who is who and what is going on anymore.
One is hooked to this fantasy world right from the first word and I must admit how good Matthew is at building and constructing not only the story but the scenery and lands as well. It is described in such a way that you can imagine yourself being in it. There truly are no bad aspects to this book!
This book was exceptionally well edited I did not find any grammar or spelling mistakes, it does contain some profanity and sexual talk but nothing extreme. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars , I feel that it is really hard to create something that can be seen as a successful series instead of a stand-alone book, but Matthew Tysz has done an amazing job with that in We Are Voulhire : A New Arrival Under Great Skies.
I recommend this book to teenagers above the age of 16 as well as adults who enjoy a world of fantasy and magic... So if this sounds like something you would enjoy, definitely give it a read!
