Review of In It Together (2nd Edition Hardcover from B&N)
I admit that I am a sucker for anything beach related, so the cover of this book drew me in. I was reminded of a time when I watched a crew decorate for a seaside wedding, and they created a heart similar to the one on the front of In It Together. I was also familiar with the author, Eckhart Aurelius Hughes, and wondered why he chose to use that name. My only reservation in choosing to read this book is that I am not a philosophical person; however, the glowing reviews that I read describing how the writer wrote this in an easy-to-understand format convinced me to read the book.
This is not a one-and-done book. A reader could find some new insight every time it is read. Rereading could also serve as a refresher, a motivator, and an encouraging reminder of that first-time glimpse of how life could be better if we all embraced our oneness. Hughes' message is vital, and the steps he proposes for attaining his goal are simple.
Some negative comments in other reviews about this book are the many repetitions. Because I am new to this genre, I needed those reminders and rephrasings. I rarely got the message the first time it was presented. At first, I was continually rereading passages in an attempt to gain understanding. Once I realized that the idea would be presented again, my enjoyment of the book increased.
My favorite chapter is found halfway through the book. Although the author does not number the chapters, I did. Chapter 13 is titled " To find inner peace, simply stop fighting." Voltaire's quote in this chapter states, "You are free the instant you want to be." The next chapter explains that the opposite of temptation is that our bodily desires do not match our spiritual aims. These two chapters alone should be enough to solve every problem. . . but wait, there's more. Eleven more chapters outline the steps one must take to achieve peace.
My rating for this book is five out of five. The author has taken care to make sure that no individual could be offended by the content based on their beliefs or background. Anyone who thinks our world could be improved by instilling some basic kindness should read this book. Copies should be sent to every government official in every country. If you read this book and find it too idealistic, then you should read the book again.
