One of the fastest ways to reach success is to have the ability to sell products. When you possess this skill, you can market products to any extent you desire and help develop permanent connections that you can use to gain credibility and further expand a business. However, how do you develop these skills? How can you learn your way around making sales? If either of those questions pique your interest, Tara Basi’s Seven At Two Past Five might just be your perfect next read!

Seven At Two Past Five follows the story of Abi, an elderly lady who has spent her entire life living in a small tower. She spends her days making buttons in isolation and her nights sleeping in a bunk where she encounters the nightly terrors that disrupt her state of mind. She has followed this routine for the entirety of her life until that one night when she gets blessed with sweet dreams. However, her sweet dreams don’t come without a price. The very next day, she is accused of creating a “disturbance potential” and finds herself having to go through a variety of strange trials to prove that she never committed any crime.

This is one of the most peculiar books I have ever read. I have never seen an author write in the formation of words Basi has. It is truly one of a kind and it makes the events all the more visually pleasing and entertaining. Although the story was a little hard to understand in the beginning, I was quickly swept into the whimsical realm of Abi as I adjusted to her writing style. The lyricism of poetry scattered throughout the book made it feel a bit like I was reading an old folktale.

Beyond the writing style, I absolutely loved the mind-twisting events of the story. Throughout the novel, Abi receives a sentence for close to every step she takes, whether she attempts to ask a question or puts her arm down to rest her head. The scorn that she faces reminds me of our modern day society, where everyone is placed under scrutiny and judged for the smallest of things. The fact that Abi’s spiral resulted from a dream she couldn’t control further contributes to the idea that people struggle to accept anything that even remotely strays from their ideals.

The final thing I love about the book is the story’s unique sense of humor. Throughout the novel, I was constantly laughing at Abi’s interactions with the people around her. The twists and turns throughout the story reminded me of Lewis Carroll’s Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, which furthered my enjoyment and kept me on my toes.

There is nothing I dislike about the book. In fact, it is one of my new favorites. The unique writing and sense of humor brought the story to life and I have never read a book like this before. Beyond being a high quality story, it was also exceptionally well-edited. Due to this, I would rate this book a 5 out of 5.

I would recommend Seven At Two Past Five to fans of psychological thrillers. I believe that the twists and turns will keep readers on their toes and the intriguing interactions of Abi’s world will keep people wanting to know more.
