Missing in Matagami is a book written by John W. Whiteside, III. The content is based on the true story of a young girl named Laurie Baier, whose disappearance occurred on April 27, 1977. Up until now, the whereabouts of this beautiful damsel are still unknown to her loved ones. Hence, the reader was enjoined to reach out to the author through his email address if he or she encounters anyone who looks exactly like Laurie. Laurie was born into the family of Rodger and Jeanne Baier in North Carolina. She loved music so much and would do anything to ensure that her music career became a success. She was also an advocate for human rights. One certain day, she heard of an antinuclear protest to be held in Seabrook, Canada. She was thrilled and then vowed to actively participate. Packing her important belongings, she left for Canada. However, several findings indicated that she never reached her destination. Where is Laurie? The reader was left with this question.

I've read investigative books that are non-fictional, but this particular one, which is fictional, made me cry because I realized that it's not an imaginary story but an actual one. The emotional pain her family must have been going through would be better read than imagined because it would be heartbreaking considering that their daughter, who traveled in search of greener pastures, never returned, dead or alive. I commend them for the patience, perseverance, and doggedness they exhibited during their whole search for Laurie. It showed that they were indeed a family to her. They went as far as involving everyone who knew Laurie to know if they did have an idea of her whereabouts. Humanly speaking, one would know that they tried their best to find her. However, the author, being a family friend of Laurie and her family, strongly feels that there could still be hope, even at the end of the tunnel. He then wrote this book to inform the public of Laurie's disappearance and also speed up the process of finding her.

I love that this book is well-detailed. Laurie was described in such a way that one might be able to recognize her if sighted. The pictures added greatly represented her and her family. Aside from the emotional aspect of this story, it also enlightened me on the subject of a nuclear power plant. I've learned that the rays it emits are very detrimental to human health. No wonder Laurie vowed to join other protesters to protest against it. Furthermore, I was engrossed with the story right from its beginning because its content was compelling.

I rate it five out of five stars because I hated no aspect of it. Its content was edited professionally, and no ambiguity was observed in any of the chapters. I also rated it excellently because it serves as a wake-up call to any good Samaritan who wants to join in the search for Laurie. What is life without hope? You already know the answer.

I recommend this book to investigators and anyone who wants to read the full details of what transpired during Laurie's trip from Austin to Seabrook, Canada. Readers of non-fiction stories would also find this book thought-provoking when they read it.

This mystery might be considered a sort of historical fiction, as it's based on a true story with all the real bits of the case offered to someway crowdsource the solution. Thank you for your great review!
Ciao :)
