We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first book in the We are Voulhire series. It is a fantasy adventure book that will thrill anyone who reads it. In this book we meet character Galen Bray, who is to become the new owner of his late uncle's estate in Voulhire. His uncle wanted him to take it over before he died. Galen is happy to leave the war and poverty behind him and start a peaceful life in Voulhire, he uses words like death by the sword and starvation to describe the situation in his homeland. When an opportunity knocked for him to move to a different world and take over his uncle's estate, he readily welcomed it. Galen meets his uncle's executor Rowan in an inn after a long time at sea.

It had taken Rowan six months of evading danger to find him, but he had eventually arrived at Onita Steel in Magnum Caelum, within Voulhire. The story demonstrates how expensive hope can be, and what it means for one to finally find an opportunity to achieve something meaningful. The narration is from the first point of view of Galen Bray and the third person as well.

Good stories always introduce the readers to a new setting and characters and leaves them feeling like they have known them for a long time, Mr. Tysz surpasses this standard, ensuring the reader understands the underlying conditions in Voulhire and knows the characters and their inner motivations. I enjoyed following Galen and seeing how external forces beyond one's control always bring unexpected changes.

I love how the book starts with a map of Voulhire, it helped me to have a clear image of the entire country and its towns, I also loved how Mr. Tysz first introduces the characters in the first pages before the story, I also enjoyed how the author organized the book into parts focusing on particular characters and the events around them.

Another thing I loved about the book is how the author uses vivid imagery in this book. His descriptions took my imagination on a wild ride, and it felt like I was physically experiencing the events in the book. I fell in love with Rowan's character due to his witty remarks and sense of humor, the way he helped Galen and made him laugh at the same time it was nice.

Just as entertaining as it is, the book also raises issues worth looking into, what does unification mean? How much is required for nationalism to be achieved? How far is too far, and what happens to dissenting voices? Through such revelations, the author manages to change one's perception entirely, the difference between good and bad is blurred.

I just couldn't believe how I was attached I to some of the characters in this book. I feared for them and empathized with them. The only thing I disliked about the book was how it ended, but it's fine because it is the first of the series, and because of this I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book is also professionally edited. I am recommending this book to all fantancy lovers.
