Review of Love and Marriage
Every relationship needs effort, attention, and love to pull off function properly. The same case is with a marriage that requires love, care, honesty, and loyalty. Love and Marriage by Arthur Hartz is a cartoon book that graphically expresses some fundamental issues in marital relationships arising from unrealistic and conflicting desires. As a medical researcher and hobby anthropologist, the author mentions several reasons that cause hurdles in blooming this beautiful relationship.
This vignette book covers nine chapters divided into two parts: dating and marriage. In the first part, the author advises people to find out what they really want and what the best qualities are, one must consider while choosing the right partner. In the second section, he explains different phases of marriage, from initial love to a mature relationship. He elaborates on how we can turn marriage into strong and lasting bonds by improving communication, support, and affection for our partner. Moreover, we find how a healthy conflict helps spouses grow emotionally.
The author unequivocally mentions that reality is different from the imagination. He elaborates that those who focus on a person’s inner qualities instead of apparent looks are the real winners. He derides the point of view of men and women and deciphers the complexes and problems they face in understanding each other.
I found this book absolutely engaging and insightful. The author uses illustrations and aphorisms to express his views regarding different behaviors that make or break a marriage or even lead to choosing the wrong person at the onset of dating. The cartoons perfectly correlate with the topic in discussion and most of them were quite amusing. For instance, I liked how beautifully he quoted and illustrated different ways of appreciating a spouse. In addition, the prologue of each chapter was quite helpful in understanding the chapter.
There was nothing to dislike in the book. This book is a heart-warming read that can help couples to find the solution to some of their problems while choosing a life partner. It is perfect for people interested in books related to dating and marriage, as they would get a chance to see things from different angles. It’s a graphically represented medium content book. Moreover, I found a few recurring typos (like missing spaces between words). For this reason, I would suggest another round of editing. However, owing to its worthwhile theme, I award this book rating of 5 out of 5 stars. This book is equally helpful for couples and married people.
