Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies. is the first book in Matthew Tysv's We Are Voulhire series. Galen narrowly avoids being attacked by some men from the Land of the Princes, a war-torn and chaotic land, on his way to Voulhire, a prosperous land. He left the city with only a letter stating that his dying uncle needed an heir to take over his forge and other properties he left behind in Magnum Caelum. Galen, who knows nothing about being a blacksmith, is taught how to run the forge by Rowan, a friend and a man assigned to him by his uncle. The story does not end here, as Galen's significant role in Voulhire and many more are revealed gradually throughout this book.
Matthew's sci-fi and fantasy novel combines political issues, magic, and power to create characters and stories that come together to form the events and happenings of Voulhire. Voulhire had a number of events and people that made its citizens fearful. Lord Meldorath was one of them, and he was greatly feared in the city due to the strong magical powers he possessed and the havoc he wreaked in Hillport, a city under Voulhire. Meldorath was thought to have been killed, but rumours persist that he may still be alive and hiding somewhere. This book has the ability to open one's imagination and transport one to a fictional time very distant from now in order to experience every action engrossed in its pages.
I liked the fact that a glossary was included at the end of the book to assist readers in understanding the complex terms used in the book. Also, the map at the beginning of the book added realism to the experience of reading this book and understanding the city of Voulhire. The detailed descriptions of fight scenes also drew me in as I read. The author did an excellent job of writing a story that makes the reader want to read more.
Because of how well-written this book was, I found nothing to dislike about it. I will suggest that the chapter headings in the book be improved by increasing the font size and numbering the chapters.
I will gladly rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because it is free of errors, which indicates how much time and effort the author put into creating this lovely piece. This book also has well-developed characters and unique plot twists that set it apart from other fictional books I've read.
This book is recommended for fans of science fiction and fantasy who enjoy reading about kingdoms, wars, and power. I also recommend this book to mature readers due to the detailed battle scenes and profanity.
