Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the first book in an interesting series by Matthew Tysz titled We are Voulhire. It tells the story of the residents of Voulhire. The tale in this book starts with the Emperor of Lullabies. This king was so thirsty for power that he pitted his sons against each other. As long as they fought, his place on his throne was assured. Unfortunately for the citizens of the lands the princes ruled, they had to die for the cause of the greedy king. Galen did not want to die like everyone he ever knew. Thankfully, a messenger brought the good news that he would inherit a modest fortune in Voulhire. Upon arriving, Galen would learn that despite looking so peaceful and prosperous on the surface, Voulhire was dying on the inside. Some of its residents were bent on destroying it, even if it was the last thing they did. How will Galen fare in this land that was hated by its own people?
Matthew Tysz wrote this book. It is by far the most exciting fantasy fiction book I have read. What I liked most about it is how Matthew Tysz mixed medieval characteristics with modern ones in the book. At first glance, its plot looks like it was set in the 14th century, but it also had inventions we did not see until the 18th century. I will not mention those because I want you to be surprised like I was (I do not want to spoil it for you).
Let me also talk about the writing style Matthew Tysz used. Firstly, he did not divide this book into chapters. I did not know what to feel when I first realized this, but I soon fell in love with it. Instead of dividing the book into chapters, Matthew Tysz simply put the names of the characters that the chapter would be about above the first sentence. That may sound confusing, but to fully understand what I am talking about, you have to read this novel. Secondly, Galen's experience was written solely from his perspective. While other characters were not so lucky, Galen had the chance to tell us what he saw and how he felt on his way to and through Voulhire. I liked this writing style a lot. It is safe to say I did not dislike anything in We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies.
5 out of 5 stars is the rating I have decided to give We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies. Everyone I told about this book, who later went ahead to read it, did not disagree with my rating. The reason why it deserves this rating is evident. For starters, its tale is very interesting. Secondly, Matthew Tysz knows how to keep readers hooked with the way he describes things. Thirdly, I fell in love with the pace at which each character seemed to develop. Fourthly, it was edited exceptionally. How can I not give it that excellent rating when I cannot even say one negative thing about it?
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies contains every element that will make it a top choice for readers who enjoy reading about adventures with lots of dark twists. I recommend it to you if your taste in adventure novels leans towards the dark side with a hint of hope at the end of the day. Just know that since We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is part of a series, you will have to read all the books in the We are Voulhire series before you can say you are done. Are you ready to make such a commitment?
