Official Review: The Alphabets of Christian Theology

This is a review of the book entitled The Alphabets of Christian Theology: Know the ABC’s of What You Believe and is written by Reverend George Pryor TH.M. The book was written in 2015 and totaled 68 pages on my view in iBooks. The book is in the nonfiction genre and more specifically belongs in the religious/inspirational subgenre.
This book is one that is written to do exactly as the title indicates: to take the reader through terms of theology in an alphabetical sequence. It is a very technically written book that gets right into the beliefs that come from the Bible and the Christian faith. The writing may seem dry to some because of the framework in which it is written, but the author crafted his writing to flow exceptionally well from concept to concept. His knowledge on the subject and ability to convey that knowledge to the reader was on display throughout the book.
Reverend Pryor was very straightforward in his explanation of the terms. His definitions were clear and concise throughout the range of topics relating to God’s Word. He used scripture verses consistently to support and give a basis for the theological terms that he presented.
There were a couple of things that I had a problem with in the book. He changed the version of the Bible that he was using a couple times instead of keeping the verses in context by using a single translation exclusively. He also occasionally used only individual verses to make his point. When the verse is pulled out of its overall context, it can often be misinterpreted or deliberately made to say something other than what it was intended to. I do not believe Reverend Pryor did this in this specific case, only that it is an issue that sadly is a frequent occurrence. I think the Reverend could have given the audience a specific mechanism or method to avoid that pitfall in their readings of scripture.
Overall, this book turned out to be a great piece of writing on the basic terminology of theology. The obvious audience for this book would be anybody who is already a Christian. I think that those who are seeking or want to learn about the Bible and/or theology would also be ones who would find this book enjoyable.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The material was presented in an engaging manner by Reverend Pryor. He was able to convey his apparent easy and smooth teaching style through his writing. I believe that this work will be a blessing to all who take the time to read it.

I agree about the switching of Bible editions and the minimizing of Biblical references.

Oh! I'm sorry. I'm not implying that the author did that. I get what you were saying about how he should've just used bigger passages. I'm absolutely not calling the author a Bible misrepresenter.

You gave an interesting review that seemed balanced as you even mentioned that some people may find it dry, and in highlighting the minimizing of a scriptural reference. Even though the author did not do this, necessarily, I still thought that was a great point. Overall, well done!
