Saints and Sinners

Saints and sinners
All alike created
Called, some claim to be
Others follow the called
Wealth seems the focus
Salvation not mentioned

I am a sinner
I yearn to be saved
Encouragement I need
To run the race
to eternity.

But these saints
Extortionists they are
They ask for dues,
They institute levies,
If not paid
May cost me my name
In the ‘book of life’

Yearly, I tithe my meager proceeds
Daily they do deny me assistance
Yet my stipend I drop eagerly
Into the well of a box each Sunday.

The saints these days
Own all
But not any do they wish to share
Yet poverty they did swear
to remain all their lives
Saints have turned to sinners
Sinners try daily to save the saints
I am the sinner
Who prays the saints are finally saved.
