Book Review: Taming the To Do List, by Glynnis Whitwer

Post by LauraMcQuade »

If I had known from the onset what this book was about, I might not have read it. After all, what procrastinator willingly picks up a book about not procrastinating? I think first congratulations go to Glynnis Whitwer for her clever choice of title, cover, and back cover blurb - all designed to appeal to people (like me) who sometimes get so wrapped up in being busy, we fail to realize that the real issue is procrastination.

This book is about the type of procrastination that keeps your head swirling with other busy things, those things that are important and should be done but that also stand in the way of your ability to feel satisfied with the work you're doing. Whitwer does an excellent job of pulling from her own personal experience and from the Bible to show us not only where our roots of procrastination lie, but also how to dig them up and why we should want to do so. Although some of her helpful tips seem decidedly out of touch - certain suggested routine adjustments would mean never getting a moment's rest for a busy mother who has a full time job out of the house - I still found most of what she had to say really helpful. I think that Taming the To Do List is going to be another staple on my shelf of useful books for a while yet.

I received my copy from Revell Reads for review, but you can get yours at any major retailer.
