Defining Moments of a Free Man from a Black Stream is a powerful testimony to hard work, faith, and resilience. Dr. Frank L. Douglas represents the country of Guyana, which was once known as British Guiana. The colonial history of the country he is from is important because his race is a big part of his story. Being born black meant he was born with economic disadvantages. That also meant he would face racism throughout his entire life. And this is captured so eloquently in the book. This book highlights important moments in the author's life.

I don't mean to romanticise the author's struggles, but his life story is a perfect Disney film plot. A black boy raised in poverty becomes successful in science and business. There are very few storylines that are as charming as that one. A lot of us love an underdog who grows up to beat all the odds set against him. That alone should sell the book. It's a heartwarming story that is universal at its core. I loved it.

The book also contains a lot of uncomfortable encounters the author endured with racists. I couldn't grasp my head around some of these encounters because they seemed too ridiculous to be true. It opened my eyes to what some black people in the medical profession have to go through to perform their job well. I love a book that expands my thoughts on topics. I love a book that isn't afraid to take me to these uncomfortable places because that's where we learn the most.

I don't have anything to negatively criticise about this book. I rate it highly amongst the biographies I have read thus far. It's simply a great book. I appreciated every bit of it. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

I would like to recommend it to people who enjoy biographies of all kinds. This is a real life that I know will inspire people to appreciate their own lives, and I think that it will inspire others to work hard at achieving their desires.
