Pepe's writing style captures your attention right away and retains it thanks to her colorful descriptions and engaging characters. The narrative of the novel centers on the exploits of two grandparents named Donny and Mary Grace as they journey through California and solve mysteries.

Because of Pepe's meticulous attention to detail, it's simple to visualize each scenario and experience it as if you're there with the actors. The conversation is authentic and convincing, giving each character more dimension and giving you the impression that you may actually know them.

The way Pepe incorporates historical and cultural details about California into the text is one of the things that distinguishes this book from others. She obviously did her homework because her familiarity with and love for the state are evident.
The pace of this novel is another quality. The mysteries develop steadily, with just enough turns and twists to keep you on your toes. The solutions are satisfactory and never come across as hasty or artificial.

Everyone who appreciates a good mystery or a well-written novel will find "Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures" to be a wonderful read. The book shows Pepe's skill as a writer and storyteller, and her enthusiasm for her subject matter is contagious.
