A genuinely amusing and entertaining read, 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir is full of regular laughs, glorious insights, learning points and, occasionally, moments that will make you exclaim out loud "Oh no...!"
I guarantee that if you think you've got a patchy dating history, Poppy Mortimer will make you feel so much better about it. While describing dates that range from a classic walk and a coffee in the park with a dog (what could possibly go wrong?) to horseback riding. From amusement park haunted houses with a handsome fireman (not to be repeated!), and terrifying trips to strangers' houses, Poppy will have you giggling away at the sheer ridiculousness of the circumstances she finds herself in.

A very entertaining writer, Poppy has done the dating research so you don't have to, and she will tell you all the lessons she's learned along the way all while giving you a good laugh, such as “37. NO MORE SPIT MISSILES!” – you’ll have to read the book to find out, but I think you can guess! If you are a fan of a good rom-com this book will be perfect for you, with one chapter a date it is perfect to dip in and out of between tasks or for a pick-you-up at the end of a long day. I for one was very glad while reading this book that none of my dates have ever remotely resembled this unfortunate list, and I’m sure as you read, you’ll reflect on your dating history with a changed perspective!

The occasional piece of content may be triggering to some, such as verbal criticism and abuse, and where this is the case, a warning is supplied at the start of the chapter which is a thoughtful addition to the book. I personally found the level of the triggers to be mild in most cases, however having the warning there did allow me to be prepared and I imagine will be very helpful to those who may need it.
